Day 2 - Ballet and more

Hello everyone! This is Laura Peterson writing to you from London, England as the first student blogger! For those of you don't know me, I am a sophomore at Luther studying elementary education with a music minor. I am in Cathedral Choir as well as piano lessons.  Anyways, enough about me.  Onto what happened today in London!

I'm sharing a room with 5 other girls, Ali, Tani, Maddi, Ingrid, and Jessica. Our room is closest to the streets, and you can definitely tell during the night. We are staying at this really cute flat in Earl's Court. It's within 5 seconds walking distance of the Tube and there are tons of pubs and little eateries around.  Today we had class at 9:30 a.m., so I got up around 8 to shower. For some reason, none of us, the girls that is, can figure out how to work the showers, so my shower this morning was similar to an ice bath. The guys seem to be having no problem.. I think we will have to converse and figure out their trick.

After class, everyone had the opportunity to do a little exploring on their own. My roommates, along with to of our other classmates Braun and Chris, decided to go check out some of the attractions in the West End. We stopped for lunch at this place called Ned's Noodles. Imagine that, our first lunch in London and we got Chinese.  After lunch we saw Big Ben, a bagpiper, West Minister Abbey, the London Eye, and Buckingham Palace. Don't worry parents and friends, MANY pictures were taken. We also had a chance to walk through St. Jame's Park and Green Park where saw lots of birds, including swans and pigeons. After a few more hours of exploring the city, we decided to head back to Earl's Court. We hopped on the Tube, but decided to get off one stop ahead of Earl's Court, Gloucester. BIG MISTAKE. For at least 45 minutes, we were aimlessly wandering around the city. All I can say is thank god for maps, people with the sense of direction (this is not including me) and friendly locals. We eventually made it back to our flat, just before dark, and just in time for Tea Time.

Tonight we went to go see the ballet called Firebird. It was at the Royal Opera House and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Right now it's currently 12:30 a.m. in London, and we have a busy day tomorrow, so I'm going to call it a night! Keep checking our blog to read more of our time in London!

  1. Thanks for the update, Laura! By the way, it is Westminster Abbey, not West Minister:) This is your correction from your Lutheran minister Dad...
    Take care and have fun!
